The street in front of Mound City’s State Theater was bustling with children and their parents - Immediately following the hilarious, entertaining performance of storyteller Will Stuck in the theater on Saturday, Dec. 6, kicking off the first annual Christmas on State Street festivities. While singing Christmas songs, the little ones anxiously searched for the fire truck that would be carrying Santa and Mrs. Claus to the theater. The jolly couple arrived and took time to listen to all of the children’s special requests for Christmas.

High school students from Mound City R-2 participate in a student aide program called Panthers Assisting With Students (PAWS). Each participant is assigned an elementary classroom for the school year. The PAWS student acts as an aide to the teacher and assists the students in the classroom. Pictured enjoying a Thanksgiving feast as guests of their little students on Tuesday, Nov. 25, are PAWS aides, left to right, Kenzie Ashford, Lily Forehand, Hunter Holstine, Jaden Derr, Grace Newcomb and Ashley Tudor. Paige Buckminster of Maitland, MO, is all smiles - With her 8-point buck shot on opening day of firearm deer season, Saturday, Nov. 15. This is Paige’s first trophy.

Nineteen veterans salute during the playing of “Taps” at the Veterans’ Day assembly - Held at Mound City, MO, in the gymnasium of Mound City R-2 on Tuesday, Nov. 11. Individual recognition was given to each attending veteran, naming their rank and time spent in service as well as any wars or conflicts involved in during that time. All elementary students then sang “The Veterans’ Day Song” while performing sign language of the lyrics.
